People come from all over Sicily to see the festival of Buon Riposo (Good Rest) in Calascibetta, Sicily. The festival celebrates the end of summer and includes bareback horse races and a place for families to set-up make shift barbecues to enjoy the delicious salsiccia of the province. This, and other typical and authentic festivals are a major component of the Heartland's charm and could be promoted to draw tourists to this undiscovered part of Sicily. |

About the Heartland Interior Sicily, specifically the provinces of Caltanisetta, Enna, and parts of the remaining 7 provinces represent some of the most economically and socially challenged parts of Italy, suffering, for example, from an unemployment rate 1.5 times the national average. Modern Sicilians continue to emigrate to Northern Italy and abroad to find work, even though mass emigration from Italy ceased years ago. The situation is desperate and made worse by the incapacity for the region to improve its position due to the lack of experience, talent, and initiative.
We actively contribute to interior Sicily's development through promoting authentic, accurate, and absorbing information about Sicily and Sicilian culture. We contribute to the Heartland's development both directly and indirectly; through monetary donations, as well as through consultation, promotion, and collaboration.
